Yes, Lord, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and your renown are the desire of our hearts - Isaiah 26:8
What is “worship”?
Worship is an engagement with God. We worship God both for who he is and what he has done. To worship God we must know him - we must understand his character and know of his “mighty deeds and acts of kindness”. This happens as we practice the disciplines of the Christian life: prayer, bible study, giving, gathering together. The more we “know” God, the more genuine our worship of Him will be. Worship begins in the heart of each individual and is something that can continually be expressed as we see and seek God in our daily lives and express our awe and gratitude back to him.
A healthy personal worship life is the first stop to vibrant corporate worship. We should joyfully anticipate our times of corporate worship. As we gather to sing, pray, meditate, teach, listen, give and receive, we do all as worship to the Almighty God.
Throughout the bible and history the arts have been powerful tools used in worship. Meaningful liturgy, beautiful music, joyful dancing, powerful images and awe-inspiring architecture have all been used to enhance a “spirit of worship”. The “Arts in Worship” Ministry at Willoughby Church seeks to continually increase in our effective use of the “tools” God has given us to worship Him for His glory alone.
