ONEChurch: One Table - 1 Corinthians 11:17-33

Speaker: Juli Stuelpnagel

We discover the community of Christ around his table. All find a place in Christ - including rich and poor - standing at the cross. So whenever we celebrate what Christ has done, we consider the body.

Song of Praise: Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow

As celebrate what God has done through our ministry to seniors, we worship with hymns which represent a particular time and place in the corporate worship life of seniors. Our seniors are a living testimony to God’s faithfulness and this is reflected in our spoken and sung words:

I will praise you with music…
because you are faithful to your promises, O my God.
(from Psalm 71)

Now thank we all our God with hearts and hands and voices
Who wondrous things has done
In whom his word rejoices
Who from our mothers’ arms
Has blessed us on our way
With countless gifts of love
And still is ours today”

If you but trust in God to guide you and place your confidence in him
You’ll find him always there beside you to give you hope and strength within…
…God never will forsake in need
The soul that trust in him indeed”

A spoken prayer of confession continues with these sung words:

“Now hear me while I pray, take all my guilt away…
…O bear me safe above, redeemed and free”

(My Faith Looks Up to Thee)

And a spoken assurance of salvation is celebrated with these sung words:
“Jesus, thou art all compassion
Pure, unbounded love thou art”
…Let us see thy great salvation
Perfectly restored in thee”

(Love Divine All Loves Excelling)

Following a message on love as described in 1 Corinthians 13, we recognize that this kind of love is impossible without the Spirit’s help and so respond with these sung words:

“(Spirit) Grant to me your sacred presence
Then my faith will ne’er decline
Comfort me and help me onward
Fill with love this heart of mine”

(Dwell in Me, O Blessed Spirit)

We close with the familiar doxology, Praise God, from whom all blessings flow, Amen!”
